To Whom it May Concern:

I'm taking some time off, not that I haven't already taken enough time, but I thought I would officially put it out here. This blog is something I want to expand on, but first I need to choose its path.

Until next time, whenever that is...

"Why are you always doing stuff?"

I'm not sure if I've ever mentioned on this blog that I have a daughter but I do and her name is Taylor Hayden. I'm ashamed to say it but I haven't thought to mention her until I read Gem's words. Gem's words, as so many experiences like hers, serve as a strong reminder to open up our eyes to what is precious in life, at least it did for me.

It made me think about the other day when Taylor was begging me to play "Dinosaur Farm" with her and I told her as soon as I was done doing stuff I would.

"Mama?"
"Yeah, hun."
"Why are you always doing stuff?"
Her question made me laugh but it also made me feel guilty.
"Is Mommy always doing stuff, Taylor?"
"Yes."
"I'm sorry," I said, because I really was.
"Well, that's okay Mommy but do you want to play with me now?"
"You know I do," I said in a song-like voice.
She laughed and it made me smile and we were off to play Dinosaur Farm. The best part, in the middle of us playing she came over and gave me a hug and told me that she was having the best day ever.
Somehow, I don't think the dishes or the laundry or the toilet would have been as thankful.

So, thank you Gem, for reminding me to value what is precious, what is present!

(BTW, the red stuff on Taylor's nose is from her Christmas performance at school - she was Rudolph)
